Connected audio-visual devices: media convergence

Dinner Debate

brouchure

The emergence of Ultra HDTV is a significant milestone in the evolution of television and video consumption in general. With recent consumer data confirming the continued demand for high resolution content, we can expect UHDTV to follow in the footsteps of HDTV as a driver of new and innovative TV services and devices and a driver of demand for increased broadcast and broadband capacity.

Consumers are already accessing higher quality video content in the home but also on the move. These trends highlight the fact that video remains the most significant pinch point in existing networks, whether fixed or mobile - affecting not only the user experience but also posing challenges for network operators. These next generation TV services call for a smarter infrastructure.

This debate will bring together cable operators, satellite operators and broadcasters to address this issue and answer questions such as:

  • How can we make sure users can have access to this high-quality content on any device, anytime and no matter where they are in the EU?
  • What role might hybrid broadcast-broadband networks play in this context?
  • Can the EU Commission do more to ease the bottlenecks caused by video content?
