Climate Change - the role of ICT towards a low carbon economy

Dinner Debate

brouchure

Carbon emissions are the most material impact on the environment. In December last year in Paris, 195 nations agreed to limit global warming to well below 2°C. The EU and its Member States have set their own carbon reduction targets to achieve this goal.

ICT offers significant solutions towards a low carbon world and more sustainable growth. The emissions avoided using ICT can be multiple times greater than the emissions generated by deploying it. Considerable ICT-enabled carbon abatement is possible in manufacturing, agriculture, building, energy, logistics, traffic optimisation and many other areas. Nevertheless, ICT plays so far only a minor role in the political debate to tackle climate change.
