Again this year, EIF will support and participate in the Transatlantic Week organised by TPN (Transatlantic Policy Network), taking place from 16 to 18 July on Capitol Hill in Washington DC under the broad theme of “Transatlantic Partnership to 2020: shoulder to shoulder in a changing world’.
The conference is intended to discuss and develop the elements of a constructive and forward-looking agenda for US-EU cooperation on security, political, digital and economic issues amid shifting priorities on both sides of the Atlantic.
The concept of Transatlantic Week in Washington DC was launched in 2010 by TPN to help foster long-term US-EU cooperation to deal with the future strategic challenges the transatlantic partners face. Participants are drawn from the US Congress, the US Administration, the European Parliament and other EU institutions as well from business, academia, think tanks, and civil society organisations.
At the request of TPN, in February 2018 EIF published “Re-launching Transatlantic Partnership 2020 - The Digital Dimension” - a document produced by EIF’s Senior Advisor Peter Linton to create and set the goals for a transatlantic digital transformation agenda.
The report should be seen as a reflection of the views of EIF’s broad multi-stakeholder membership on Transatlantic digital policy priorities at the outset of a new US congress and administration, with European elections in 2019 on the horizon, and in view of the ever more powerful and pervasive foreseeable impact of these technologies throughout our societies over the coming decade and beyond.
