On 19 October, EIF and Victor Negrescu, MEP and EIF Member, invited representatives of business and social organisations to discuss the role of Digital Platforms in today's society.
In his opening remarks Mr. Negrescu spoke about Digital Platforms as a tool for citizens to access innovation and invited our speakers to showcase the ways citizens can have access to digital platforms.
Jean-François Abramatic, Research Director at Inria and former President of the World Wide Web Consortium, presented the work of Software Heritage. This platform collects and preserves all publicly available source code aiming to create a universal, vendor-neutral, persistent reference software archive.
Krzysztof Debski, Senior IT Architect at Allegro.tech, presented the company’s initiative to empower children through coding clubs in various cities of Poland. He also explained how they encourage girls and women to become code developers.
Eugenijus Stratilatovas, Head of Strategic Project Development at the National Library of Lithuania, spoke about the role of libraries for EU communities. He noted that libraries are becoming meeting places and intermediaries for European citizens to have access to the internet. He elaborated on how the digital revolution is affecting the services that libraries provide today.
Louise Holden FRSA , Senior Business Leader Public Private Partnerships at Mastercard, spoke about how online payment systems enable economic inclusion for different members of our society.
Iva Walterova, Project Coordinator at Telecentre Europe, presented the I-LINC platform seeking to connect stakeholders working to improve youth employability and entrepreneurship.
