On 25 September EIF gathered its members and friends for the morning discussion on how e-Health, m-Health and telemedicine are changing the delivery of care. Milan Cabrnoch, MEP and EIF Political Member, chaired this important discussion.
Joan Cornet, Director of the mHealth Competence Center at Mobile World Capital Barcelona, presented a regional health care administration perspective on e-Health and m-Health and on how it can help to address financial and other pressures. Mr. Cornet explained how the explosion of digital technology and data changes medical treatment. However, he stressed that industry, public authorities and healthcare institutions must work together to implement mHeath across Europe.

Paul Buchanan, the founder and Chief Executive of Team Blood Glucose (Team BG), explained based on his own personal experience how mobile technologies help manage chronic conditions in real life. He urged policy makers to think more creatively how to utilize the benefits of mobile technology in healthcare. Mr Buchanan warned about the limitations in current regulation for citizens to actively participate in the delivery of healthcare. He also shared a personal vision with policy makers: “make the regulation meaningful, sustainable and something that people want to do, but not what they are told to do. This way chronic sufferers can live longer and healthier lives and be net contributors to the society”.
