Algirdas Saudargas MEP is a Lithuanian politician and the signatory of the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania.
In 1972 he made his university degree in biophysics. He started his career as a researcher between 1972 and 1990.
Elected in European Parliament from 2009 he is a full Member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and substitute Member of the Committee on Culture and Education.
He also served as a Member of the Parliament of Lithuania and was appointed several times as a Foreign Minister throughout the 1990s.
He was Chair of the Lithuanian Christian Democrat Party between 1995 and 1999.
From 2004 until 2008 he was the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Holy See.
In 1992, together with nine other Baltic Ministers of Foreign Affairs and an EU Commissioner, Algirdas Saudargas founded the Council of the Baltic Sea States.
