EIF members and guests will have the opportunity to meet Göran Marby, new President and CEO of ICANN, responsible for coordinating and implementing the rules for the Internet’s unique identifiers, and supporting the technical operation of the Domain Name System (DNS).
The evening will allow for an exchange of views on the current Internet landscape, including an update on the IANA Stewardship Transition. In more technical terms, ICANN coordinates the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions, which are key technical services critical to the continued operations of the Internet's underlying address book, the Domain Name System (DNS). This evening’s discussion will explore the effects of the IANA Stewardship transition that started over two years ago on March 2014 when the U.S. Government’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced its intent to transition its stewardship of the IANA functions to the global multistakeholder community.
Mr. Marby will offer his views on how the transition will take effect, its impact, and more widely, what to expect from ICANN in coming years, from his perspective having been 6 months in the job as the first European CEO of ICANN.
