The European Union has recently witnessed major cybersecurity incidents impacting government systems, critical infrastructures, as well as businesses and other public and private organisations of all sizes across several countries. The ongoing review of European legislation regulating the digital sector and the imminent revision of the EU’s Cyber Security Strategy expected in September create a most timely opportunity to assess Europe’s existing cybersecurity frameworks and to identify the necessary improvements and upgrades that the revised strategy should pursue.
In the meantime, further sectoral work is also ongoing, such as on an EU-wide Security Policy for C-ITS. In that context, particular attention should be paid to the fast evolving cyber threat landscape that accompanies the digital transformation of Europe’s economy as the Internet of Things, smart infrastructures, connected cars, digital health and eGovernment applications get massively deployed.
At this lunch debate we will discuss the state of play, the successes and the challenges of cyber security incident information sharing and response in Europe, and to hear from cybersecurity experts and digital technology users about their concrete experience in the field, their future expectations and their policy recommendations. Dr Hugh Thompson, PhD, global Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of world-leading cybersecurity provider Symantec will give the opening keynote address, to be followed by a debate with European institutional and business representatives.
