For many observers, 2014 will be a milestone year for internet governance with different meetings and initiatives that will focus on both the core concepts of internet governance and its implementation.
Since the IGF in Bali last October, the speed of events has increased and has taken a different dimension with the much discussed initiative from Brazil. At the EU level, the Commission is also working on its Communication on Internet Governance, which promises another opportunity for debates. In this context, and given that several MEPs and EIF members who participated in the IGF in Bali, this breakfast meeting offered a platform for taking stock of the IGF process and agenda, as well as continuing the conversation EIF started with MEPs, the Commission, business and civil society experts on this key topic for the long-term sustainability of the internet as a network of networks, with a focus on the role of the EU.
Prof. Michael Rotert, Chairman of eco (Verband der deutschen Internetwirtschaft e.V.), was one of the speakers at this debate.
