ABOUT

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) enables better and faster humanitarian assistance and protection - from emergency registration and biometric enrolment, to commodity distribution and reporting. As Chief of ICT Emergency Preparedness and Response with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Elie Ayoub is responsible for coordinating ICT responses to refugee emergencies across the globe. In his capacity as Chief, Elie also leads the Refugee Emergency Telecommunications Sector (RETS), the mechanism through which UNHCR coordinates the provision of security communications and internet connectivity services to the wider humanitarian community in refugee situations, in collaboration with government, civil society, private sector and UN partners.

Having joined UNHCR over two decades ago, Elie has risen through the ranks of the organisation, from Telecommunications Associate to Head of ICT Operations and his current position based in Geneva. Elie has deployed in various ICT capacities to over 90 countries including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Prior to joining UNHCR, Elie worked with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies conducting field assessments and training missions. He was Volunteer Chief of Training Sector with the Lebanese Red Cross for nearly eight years during the Lebanese Civil War.
